Kangaroo scratch cards

Replacement of Kangaroo scratch cards with smart tickets

As part of our ongoing investment in Nottingham’s transport system we’re currently upgrading the ticketing infrastructure across the bus, tram & train networks. As part of this upgrade we are going to replace the existing Kangaroo scratch cards with new smart tickets.

Because of this it will not be possible to purchase Kangaroo scratch cards after Friday 31st January 2014. You can still use any Kangaroo scratch cards you have on buses, trams and trains until Sunday 27th April 2014.

How to upgrade your scratch cards

Customers upgrading kangaroo scratch cards can choose to have either one day smartcards, 10 day smartcards or a combination of both. Customers will be able to upgrade existing smartcards from Monday 31st March at the Broadmarsh Travel Centre.

Customers purchasing smart Kangaroo day tickets can choose either to have the 10 days loaded onto an existing Citycard or on a non-personalised Citycard with 10 days pre-loaded. Smart Kangaroo day tickets will be available to purchase from Friday 21st March.

Single day kangaroo tickets are not available for general purchase, they are only available pre-loaded for customers upgrading from existing scratch cards.

Frequently asked questions

How will the smart cards work?

The first time you touch on a bus, tram or train each day, 1 day is deducted from the balance of your card. You’re then free to use the card as many times as you like during that day (you need to touch on the vehicle or platform with your card each time you use it)

Do the days on a smartcard expire?

Any day products loaded onto your Citycard are valid for 2 years from the date they are loaded onto your card. If you’ve not used them within 2 years simply bring your card back and we’ll extend your remaining days.

Can I top up a smartcard once I’ve used the days on the card?

Yes, Citycards are reusable. You can top up your card with additional days or add a season ticket to your Citycard. You can have either day products or a season ticket on your Citycard, you can’t have both.

Where can I top up my Citycard?

At the moment you can only top up your Citycard at the Broadmarsh and Victoria Travel Centres (Victoria travel centre will be open from April 2014). We’ll be adding more locations throughout the next 12 months including online, on street kiosks and over 150  Payzone locations.

What’s a non-personalised Citycard?

A non personalised Citycard works the same as a standard Citycard, the only difference is that you don’t have to provide any personal information when you get your card. The downside is that the days on a non personalised card are not protected should the card be lost or stolen.
